Covid 19 Vehicle Hygiene from Allen Motor Group, UK
All of the dealerships that make up Allen Motor Group have put in place stringent Health & Safety procedures (including social distancing) during the lockdown to help everyone stay safe in the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and will also be using them once the lockdown is lifted. As part of this we have improved vehicle hygiene even further at our sites and when delivering vehicles to help keep our customers and staff healthy.
Although our Sales departments are closed at the current time, our Service departments are open in selected locations to operate a reduced service to support key workers (e.g. police, NHS staff) and / or other emergency breakdowns and repairs. Vehicle hygiene is essential to the ongoing efforts of those working hard to reduce the spread of virus and care for people who have been infected.
As well as stepping up the frequency of deep cleans and encouraging both customers and colleagues to wash their hands regularly with sanitiser or soap while inside our dealerships, we have also trained our employees to protect and clean all vehicles so that staff can work with them and we can hand them over to customers in the most hygienic state possible to reduce the risk of infection.
Measures we have implemented include our drivers and technicians using gloves, steering wheel covers, seat covers and antibacterial wipes to clean the touchpoints of each vehicle that people make contact with most often. When travelling in a car or light commercial vehicle many of the surfaces in the cabin will be touched (not just in passing) but simply to use the various functions, from the door handles, seat belts, steering wheel and gear knob to mirrors, the touchscreen, and temperature and seat adjustment controls.
What You Can Do
It is a wise idea for you to wash your own hands before and after driving, in addition to having access to hygiene products to wipe down the many oft-used touchpoints when getting in and out of a vehicle whenever you use it during the pandemic.
The seat belt and the steering wheel are particularly important as they are most likely to collect respiratory droplets carrying the virus if one coughs or sneezes. Make sure you use hygiene products that will not damage the interior materials, plastics or paint (i.e. bleach-free) and make sure you do more than a quick wipe. Wiping twice in different directions is best.
By putting the health and safety of our friends, customers and colleagues first, we hope that you will be comfortable and confident in your dealings with us.
